Why mount a sun screen with suction cups for your skylight?

A skylight provides beautiful natural daylight, but on sunny days it can quickly turn the room beneath into a greenhouse. Because of the large and often slanted glass surface, the space below can heat up rapidly. Good sun shading for your skylight is therefore not a luxury but a necessity.

Traditional solutions are often expensive, require permanent structures, or are difficult to install on sloping glass. With a suction cup screen you mount the sun screen directly onto the glass, without drilling, rails or structural changes.

This keeps heat effectively outside while preserving natural daylight and your view outside.

This is why you choose for sun screens with suction cups for your skylight:

  • Specifically designed for slanted and angled skylights
  • Custom made screens suitable for any window shape
  • Installation possible on the inside or outside of the glass
  • Attached with suction cups so no permanent installation
  • 10 to 15 times cheaper than traditional sun shading solutions

The benefits of sun screens with suction cups for your skylight

A skylight defines the atmosphere in your home, but it can also cause overheating and glare. By using suction cup sun screens you maintain natural daylight while controlling heat and bright sunlight. Your living space stays comfortable without permanent changes to your home.

Our screens are specially designed for installation on flat glass, including sloping surfaces. Thanks to custom production they fit your skylight perfectly while maintaining a clean and minimal appearance.

  • Blocks up to 97% of heat when mounted outside
  • Reduces intense sunlight without fully darkening the room
  • Maintains daylight and outside views
  • Easy to install and remove yourself
  • Resistant to UV radiation and weather conditions
  • Custom made for every skylight

Measuring your skylight for a Sun Eclipse screen

A skylight requires a custom solution. We can produce almost any shape. In most cases we recommend one screen for the entire skylight. This provides maximum heat reduction, a clean appearance and fewer mounting points.

For skylights, only the colour White is available in the Maximum Sunblock variant. When mounted outside this combination blocks up to 97% of heat and is therefore the most effective solution for large glass surfaces such as skylights.

This is how you measure correctly:

  1. Go to https://suneclipse.nl/order/
  2. Select ‘custom size’ at step 3
  3. Enter the largest width and the largest height

If you have any doubts or questions, you can always contact customer service. They are happy to assist you.

Upload a sketch and photo:
After entering the measurements you can upload files. Please include:

  • A clear sketch with all measurements
  • A photo of the entire skylight

Based on this information we create a technical drawing in which the suction cups are positioned exactly on the glass. This drawing is always confirmed with you first. Only after your approval will the screen go into production.

This ensures a perfectly fitting Sun Eclipse screen with maximum heat protection.

Should you install sun screens for your skylight on the outside or inside?

For skylights, screens can be installed on either the outside or the inside of the glass. The best option depends on your situation and accessibility.

    Interior installation, practical heat reduction

    • Ideal for hard to reach or high skylights
    • Light colours (White or Boulder) perform best
    • Suitable for slanted and angled glass surfaces

Up to 97% heat reduction with Maximum Sunblock screens

    Exterior installation, maximum heat reduction

    • Blocks sunlight before the glass heats up
    • Most effective way to reduce heat build up
    • Ideal for easily accessible skylights
    • Suitable for slanted and angled glass surfaces

Which colour and screen type should you choose for a skylight?

With skylights the sun often shines directly on the glass, especially with sloping constructions. That is why we recommend Maximum Sunblock in the colour White as standard, both for interior and exterior installation.

White reflects sunlight optimally and prevents heat from transferring into the room. This gives you the maximum benefit from your skylight sun screen and keeps the indoor temperature noticeably cooler.

This is how you install sun screens on your skylight

Both interior and exterior screens are easy to install yourself. No complex installation, no permanent changes and no professional installer required. Depending on accessibility you can choose installation on the inside or outside of the glass.

The screens are attached quickly and securely directly onto the flat glass using our strong vacuum suction cups. Within minutes you create effective heat protection without drilling, screws or damage to frames.

Installation in short:

  1. Clean the window and suction cups
  2. Place the screen and tighten the suction cups
  3. Enjoy a cool and comfortable home all season long

Removing the screens is just as easy. Store the sun screens clean and dry so they can easily be reinstalled next spring.

Frequently asked questions

At Sun Eclipse, we continually strive to provide our customers with the best possible support. For this reason, we have collected and answered the most common questions in our FAQ. This way, you can easily find answers to all your questions.

Go to FAQ
  • Do Sun Eclipse screens stay put during strong winds?

Sun Eclipse screens and suction cups stay put even during a spring storm. Our screens catch little wind because they are close to the windows and the suction cups are designed to last.

  • How many suction cups will my Sun Eclipse screen have?

The suction cups are a maximum of 100 cm apart. If your screen has a length and/or width that is larger, an extra suction cup is placed halfway so that the maximum distance between two suction cups, measured along one side, is never greater than 100 cm.

  • Is a Sun Eclipse screen sustainable?

Sun Eclipse screens are made of sustainable material, last a long time and ensure lower energy consumption when using air conditioners. It is the simplest solution to indoor heat.

  • What does excess fabric mean?

Because Sun Eclipse screens are placed 2 cm from the window’s surface, the screens are supplied with 1.5 cm excess fabric on each side (3 cm per width and height). As a result, the screens close properly and no heat and light can pass through the edges.

You can also opt for no excess fabric, for instance, if you have high square upright edges on your window frames. In this case, choose under ‘which type of frame do you have’ the option ‘Deep and angled’ when you order.

You can request any other changes in the order option. This way you can create a custom sunshade.

  • Will you come to my house to measure the windows and install the screens?

Sun Eclipse is an affordable indoor heat solution. That’s why we are online only. By letting the customer do the measuring and assembly, we keep costs, and therefore prices, low.

  • Can I request a quote?

Use our online ordering tool and see the price immediately.
